Open Education Week Starts at WSU Libraries April 19

WSU and University of Idaho Libraries, as well as WSU Academic Outreach and Innovation, will sponsor a webinar and educational technology open house next week detailing high-quality, low-cost alternatives to traditional course materials during Open Education Week.

These alternatives, called open educational resources (OERs), are openly licensed textbooks and learning materials that can be adapted, remixed and reused by instructors at little to no cost to students.

On Tuesday, April 19, Nicole Finkbeiner of OpenStax College will present a webinar from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Terrell Library 20E. OpenStax College is an initiative of Rice University that offers students free open textbooks, peer reviewed and written by professional content developers. Texts are available for general education courses in biology, sociology, physics, economics, history, mathematics, chemistry and more.

On Wednesday, April 20, WSU librarians will hold an educational technology open house from 2-4 p.m. in Terrell Library’s Quiet Study Lounge to introduce visitors to the latest OER innovations.
